In his latest "Chat with Frank", our very own voice of Pooler says..
"It’s good to report that our first winning start to a Premiership season has left all at the Club in a buoyant mood. Ever in the pursuit of excellence, we would have ideally liked to have secured the extra try bonus point, but we will settle for four and a fifth place in the league after the opening weekend". The Welsh Rugby Union have launched the Principality Welsh Premiership season for 2010 - 2011 with the usual Captains parade at the Millennium Stadium. Pooler skipper Geraint Morris is pictured amongst the other 13 skippers which include former Pooler player Rob Nash for Cross Keys.
Well folks it is almost here. The Pooler open the season in 24 hours against local rivals Bedwas. Nothing short of win and a good start will be in everyone's mind and a game where we can all enjoy the open play we are now famous for. Bedwas will look to avenge their defeat here last season and will be no easy game. Finger nails at the ready again? Let us pray not!
The club wishes to announce the retirement of Neil Giles. His
doctor and consultant have advised him that the risk associated with his
injury is too great to sanction his continued rugby career given the
collision nature of the game at Premiership level and Neil's own position in the front row. Gilsey has been a loyal servant to both Pontypool and Torfaen rugby having played and worked his way up from grass roots rugby to the Premiership. He has appeared in over 100 games for Pooler and remains one of the club's great characters. We wish him well in his retirement and know that he will still be part of this great Club in another capacity.
