Friday 22nd June 2018

PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 22nd June 2018 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the club’s pre-season friendlies schedule in preparation for the pivotal 2018-2019 WRU National Championship season.

Pooler’s first test ahead of the new season be short trip to WRU League 2 East side, Talywain RFC – in what will be a celebration of the strong relationship that has been forged between the two Torfaen clubs.

The club will also be calling Emlyn Park home throughout the entire pre-season period due to extensive pitch improvements being made to the hallowed turf at Pontypool Park, for which Pontypool RFC is exceptionally grateful.

Following the Talywain fixture, Pooler will make the journey to 2016-2017 Principality Premiership finalists, Aberavon RFC, before rounding the pre-season campaign off with a trip to ‘The Gnoll’ to take on Lyn Jones' Neath RFC.

"We have geared our pre-season schedule to be deliberately tough as we want to make a quick and productive start to the season ahead,” said Pontypool RFC head coach, Leighton Jones.

“These fixtures will present many challenges and it is vital that we are right up to speed ahead of the most important season for the club since the 2015-2016 campaign.

"We are particularly looking forward to travelling to Talywain and they are a club that we enjoy a close and mutually beneficial relationship with. They have a squad packed with talent and we look forward to a competitive fixture against them at Emlyn Park.
