Pontypool RFC calls for public consultation backing from supporters

Saturday 12th January 2019

Following this week’s exciting announcement that significant progress has been made in overcoming the legal steps required to secure Pontypool RFC’s long-term future at Pontypool Park, the club is now calling on all supporters to back its plans at this crucial stage in the process.

Torfaen County Borough Council have launched a public consultation that invites you to comment on proposals to the rugby grounds area within the park.

The consultation is being undertaken in accordance with the Playing Fields (Community Involvement in Disposal Decisions) (Wales) Regulations 2015. This is a legal process that is an important step prior to the Council taking a decision as to whether to grant a lease to Pontypool Rugby Ltd., giving the club security for the future, allowing it to invest in and improve the rugby ground’s facilities.

With these proposals, the Council would be able to work in partnership with Pontypool Rugby Ltd and give the club exclusive possession of the grounds so that it can have greater influence and control on the rugby pitch and stand to resolve vandalism issues.

Alongside this process, Pontypool RFC will shortly be submitting a planning application, which will include new fencing that seeks to enclose the pitch, the main spectator stand and the northern terrace - in order to protect the facility from on-going impacts of vandalism and arson.

The application will also include details of additional tree planting and a soft landscaping plan, which will assist with softening the visual impact of the required fencing and provide betterment to the wider park.

The consultation period is open for six weeks and will close at 5pm on 22ndFebruary 2019. During this period, you are invited to send comments on the proposals and Pontypool RFC is asking all of its supporters to offer their support.

You can do this by sending a comment of support to the following:

On behalf of everybody at Pontypool RFC, thank you for your continued support throughout this process.
