Pontypool RFC has been commended by the leading international organisation responsible for honouring the best creative and professional websites on the Internet for its state of the art digital presence.
Described as the ‘Internet’s highest honour’ by The New York Times, Pooler were presented with a Webby Honouree Award for the Best Sport Website by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) - sharing a platform with global powerhouses such as the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), HBO and Golf Digest in the process.
“Honourees like Pontypool RFC are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of The Webby Awards.
“It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 13,000 entries we received this year.”
Last year, Pooler set out to create the ultimate digital experience that would enable users to seamlessly track its quest to return to the top tier of Welsh club rugby - the Principality Premiership.
Following a period of performing qualitative research with Pooler’s supporter base, the club tasked Cardiff-based ideas agency, Blue Stag, with creating a digital hub that would present team information, league progress and key statistics in a clear and interactive fashion.
“To receive this honour is symbolic of the extraordinary progress the club continues to make in its mission to solidify its reputation as one of the premier semi-professional rugby clubs in Wales,” said Pontypool RFC Chief Executive Officer, Ben Jeffreys.
“The club’s digital presence is something we are all very proud of and we will continue to further advance Pontypool RFC’s brand into the future with a modern approach.”
Dan Sargent, Creative Director of Blue Stag, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for both ourselves and Pontypool RFC and we are tremendously proud to be part of a project that has achieved this honour.
“This honour demonstrates just how much creative and digital talent there is within Wales and shows that we can compete with the thousands of other agencies from around the world.
“Wales is clearly a very exciting place for businesses to be based right now.”
