Pontypool RFC chairman, Barrie Calder-Matthews, passes away

Saturday 29th April 2017

It is with immense sadness that Pontypool RFC today announces the sudden passing of the club’s chairman, Barrie Calder-Matthews.

Barrie was due to attend last night’s end of season celebration dinner at the Parkway Hotel and Spa, but became unwell and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Despite suffering from a significant period of ill-health over the past ten years, Barrie continued to serve Pontypool RFC with an inspirational level of courage, commitment and loyalty.

Barrie’s passing has left a void in the club that simply cannot be replaced and we are heartbroken to have lost such a loved and respected member of our family.

Our thoughts and sympathies are very much with Barrie’s family – particularly Gill, Melissa, Jane and Sam - during this incredibly difficult time.

Barrie was a wonderful man and he will be missed.
