PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 17th June 2019 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of Scott Evans from Cross Keys RFC ahead of the 2019-2020 WRU National Championship season.

The 25-year-old tight-head prop joined the Pandy Park club in the summer of 2017, but by the end of the 2018-2019 campaign had returned to play for his first senior club, Oakdale RFC, on permit. Evans also experienced a short stint at Bargoed RFC earlier in his career, but it has been with Oakdale and the Dragons U23s where the prop has enjoyed his most notable career achievements to date. He started in Oakdale's National Bowl final clash against Abergavenny RFC at the Principality Stadium in May and also featured for the Dragons' age grade side in the Celtic Cup last season.

On joining Pooler, he said: "I'm looking forward to joining Pontypool. They have been a top-class club for a few years now and have made some impressive signings. The club's achievements in the Championship and National Cup are impressive and it shows they're a club on the up.

"I already know Scott Matthews and Darren Hughes from earlier in my career and they had nothing but positive things to say about Pontypool," said Evans. "It's a club with a winning mentality and a thirst to achieve great things, making my decision to join an easy one.

"I'm a local lad and will relish pulling on the famous red, white and black jersey for the first time. I'm looking forward to the coming season and hopefully helping the club achieve promotion to the Principality Premiership."

Evans will compete with Craig Price for the famous number three jersey and head coach, Leighton Jones, is pleased to welcome a player to the club that he has been tracking for some time.

"Scott is a highly motivated individual who will fit into our environment perfectly," said Jones. "With the departure of Ollie Drake over the summer, we needed to restock our tight-head options and I'm really looking forward to seeing Scott develop over the coming seasons. He brings an aggressive and hard style of play to the field, but he channels it in the correct way and will be a real asset for us.

"He had a varied campaign last season with time spent at regional, Premiership and community level. If he can bring together the best aspects of all three of those experiences, we as a club can only benefit."
