Pooler move to bring in highly-rated Monmouth RFC duo

Tuesday 25th June 2019

PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 25th June 2019 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signings of Zenon Szwagrzak and Amosa Nove from Monmouth RFC ahead of the 2019-2020 Specsavers National Championship campaign.

28-year-old Szwagrzak will compete with Scott Evans and Craig Price for the number three jersey, whilst 24-year-old Nove will add further depth to the backs with his versatility enabling him to play at centre and full-back.

Szwagrzak is highly regarded and had attracted the attention of a number of clubs ahead of his move to Pontypool Park. The prop captained Monmouth RFC for the two seasons prior to his move to Pooler and his signing is regarded as something of a coup for the club.

On embarking on this new challenge, Szwagrzak said: “I am really looking forward to joining a club as prestigious as Pontypool. Their history and pedigree when it comes to front-row play speaks for itself.

“The ambition is clearly there to keep moving the club forward and to be successful in the future. I'm really looking forward to staring pre-season training and adding as much as I can to the team.

“The chance to work with the club's coaching staff was a real pull for me. The experience and know-how of Leighton is hopefully something that I will benefit from and I look forward to testing myself in such a professional environment."

Nove arrives at the club after three years with the border town club. He won the District 'A' Player of the Year award in his first season at the club and played his part as the club earned two promotions in two seasons.

"I decided to join Pooler as they are a highly motivated club who want to achieve great things,” said Nove. “They play a great standard of rugby and that will help me to improve as a player.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of playing for a club the size of Pontypool and I cannot wait to join up with my new team-mates and hopefully impressing the coaching staff.

“I like to play a fast, free-flowing style of rugby and I hope to be able to play a part as the club targets promotion again this season."

The duo will come under the influence of Pooler’s head coach, Leighton Jones, who is looking forward to seeing how the pair integrate into the set-up at Pontypool Park.

On what both players will bring to the club, Jones said: “They both helped Monmouth RFC achieve back-to-back promotions and are used to playing in a successful, high-pressure environment.

"Zenon is an exciting prospect who I'm really looking forward to working with and and at twenty-eight, he is entering his prime as a tighthead prop. Amosa has also proved his class at Monmouth and will be an exciting addition to our backs division."
