PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 22nd August 2019 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of Luke Fleming-Jones from Usk RFC as the club prepare for the start of the 2019-2020 Specsavers Championship campaign.
The 19-year-old second-row joins the club after a 2018-2019 campaign that saw him feature for the Monmouth side as they finished fifth in Division 3 East A. He combined his time at the club with travelling but is now relishing the chance to fully commit himself to the cause at Pontypool Park.
On joining Pooler, Fleming-Jones said: "To have the opportunity to play for such a world-famous club is one I relish. To think I will play for a club that has produced so many brilliant players is inspiring and I will work hard to establish the respect of the coaching staff and my new team- mates.
“I'm looking forward to the step up in physicality and speed and have thoroughly enjoyed my first few training sessions with the squad. The slickness with which different drills come together and are put into game situations is exciting and gives me an idea of how much I will improve as a player at Pontypool Park.
“I have obviously arrived at the club a few weeks into pre-season, so I had a few things to catch up on, but I feel in a good place and can't wait for the season to start.”
Earlier in his career, the youngster featured for Northampton Saints at under-18 level and captained the Crawshays youth team. He is viewed as a player of considerable promise by Pooler's coaching staff, who will look to nurture his talent over the coming seasons.
"Luke is a real coup for the club,” said Pontypool RFC head coach, Leighton Jones. “At just 19 and as a second-row, he is still in the early stages of his career. We have the opportunity to influence his development and mould him into a formidable and commanding lock who can play a key role for the club in the years to come.
"At 6ft4 and 15st 7lbs, he is already an imposing figure and that will only be accentuated over the coming years as he fills out. His ability over the ball, decision making and ability to learn are three of the main facets to his game at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses over the next twelve months."
