Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of Cameron Regan from Ebbw Vale RFC to strengthen the back row ahead of the 2021-22 WRU Specsavers National Championship season, which gets underway next month.
Regan heads to Pontypool Park after spending nine years with the Steelmen, helping them climb through the leagues and return to the Welsh Premiership before lifting the league title in 2016.
The forward, who also had a spell at hometown club Tredegar RFC, is reunited with Ashley Sweet, who also made the switch from the Blaenau Gwent side in August, and he spoke with his former captain ahead of his move.
“I’m very pleased to be joining such a great club and hopefully helping the club get back to where it belongs in the Premiership,” he said.
"I’m very much looking forward to starting the season and putting on the jersey.
“I know a few of the boys at the club and I spoke to Sweety and he only had good things to say about the club, being a Pontypool boy himself.”
Head coach Leighton Jones is pleased to have sealed the deal for Regan and admitted the partnership that he built up with Sweet at Eugene Cross Park could be a massive bonus for the club.
“We spoke with Cameron a while ago, he’s been on our radar for months but as time was going on and we were getting closer we realised we needed further depth in the back row area so it seemed the right time to bring him in. He’s been a great fit,” Jones explained.
“Cameron has come in to the squad and he obviously has a vast amount of experience from his time in a successful Ebbw Vale team, a league winner.
“He’s come in this week and added a real buzz to the training and linking up with Ashley (Sweet) has proved a massive plus for us from a forward pack.
“He’s already taken a few of the younger boys under his wing so he’s a great addition for us.”
Regan is in contention for selection for Sunday’s friendly against Bristol Bears A.
