Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of scrum-half Dai Jones.
Jones is a well-known face in Welsh rugby having enjoyed a long spell at Ebbw Vale RFC, where he won the Premiership alongside Cameron Regan, Ashley Sweet and Dai Langdon in 2016. He spent a decade with the Steelmen helping them claim two Division One titles and two Championship titles as well.
His most recent spell was with Pontypridd RFC, joining them in November 2021. He has also had spells with Newport RFC, Bedwas RFC and Abertillery RFC.
The 33-year-old will add plenty of experience and will provide competition for the number nine jersey with Dan Babos and Owain Leonard.
Head coach Leighton Jones said: “We’ve got Dan [Babos] and Owain [Leonard] but it’s a specialist position so we were always looking at that third option if one of them got injured or were unavailable, which we’ve had twice this season.
“A few of the boys have got a connection with Dai from their playing careers and they spoke highly of him.
“We spoke to Dai and it was something he wanted to come and be a part of.
“He comes with the greatest of respect from the players in the squad, he's played with a lot of them and played against a lot of them too.
“His playing record is great, he’s come in, he’s trained hard and led by example.
“It is great to get him onboard and to get him out there in his first game, which is a Gwent derby and I’m sure he’ll be right up for that.”
