Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce that the club has signed Tom Hancock for the 2014/2015 season.
Hancock, 28, joins Pooler having made 70 appearances for the club in two stints, first making 60 appearances between 2008 and 2012, and latterly, making a further 10 appearances last season whilst on permit from Newport RFC.
“I am delighted to be back at Pontypool Park playing rugby and being injury free,” said Hancock. “It is a great club that grabs hold of you and sucks you into a friendly, tight knit environment where it is a pleasure and honour to play. I know all about what it means to play for Pontypool having played with some passionate local boys over the years that would literally give anything to and for the club.”
“Having played ten games at the end of last season, I feel that I have had a head start and have learned how to play with the players already here and within the team's style of play. Hopefully I can play as well as I can and help the team to progress back into the Welsh Premiership where we all feel that we belong.”
“There is a strong squad here with a robust, dynamic pack and a lethal backline and I can't wait to be a part of the future as we look to gain promotion. Our supporters are first class and get right behind the team, and there was a great feeling of optimism and positivity around the Park at the end of last season that I know will carry through pre-season and help us start in earnest this September with a bang.”
Pontypool RFC Director of Rugby, Alun Carter, said: “Tom Hancock influenced the success we had at the end of last season. He makes good decisions from 10 yards and gave a direction to the team that kept us going forward. His kicking out of hand is accurate and long.”
“Tom has settled in well with this group of players becoming a key personality. Having had a good taste of the club at the end of last season, I am delighted he likes what he sees and has joined us for the season ahead.”
