Appreciation For Our Amazing Volunteers

Sunday 03rd November 2024

Volunteers are the lifeblood of rugby clubs across Wales and that’s exactly the case for us too. We’re incredibly lucky to have a small but committed group of supporters who choose to give up their time for their love of the club. So much of their work goes unseen so here’s a flavour of what goes on behind the scenes.

Our rugby assistants are there in all weathers. Peter & Roy will get to away grounds hours in advance to set up our environment ready for the boys arrival and they manage the kit like it’s their own! Alan made a welcome return earlier this year and is a vital part of the team during training sessions & warm ups, allowing our boys to focus 100% on rugby.

Gilesey provides the PA and music on match days to keep you all entertained and informed. Joe Price has joined the team this year and ensures our official Facebook feed is updated throughout our games. He combines this with timing/scoring duties alongside Ray Ruddick who provides his usual excellent match report which gets posted later on. In addition Ray keeps all club records and is THE font of all knowledge when it comes to Pontypool RFC!

The past couple of seasons have seen Rod, Kev, Jon, Nathan, Steve, Paul, Darren & Byron spend countless hours at the ground prepping and painting the railings around the pitch and on the bank. They look brilliant and the full ring is very nearly complete including some extra colour on the gates!

Match days wouldn’t happen without the team who prepare the pitch and provide the stewarding that keeps everyone safe. Kyle leads the team which consists of Sarah, Zai, Debs, Denise, John, Gerald, Tony, Steve, David, Rob, Albert, Chris, Geraint, Mark, Dean, Cerys & Matthew. Tony Clarke is also on hand when we host clubs M&J teams for curtain raisers and guard of honours from time to time.

We don’t have a large hospitality area but we pride ourselves on giving a first class welcome to our VP's, Patrons & guests. Gill, Linda, Melissa & John are integral cogs on match days. Gill and John also spend half their lives at the ground throughout the week ensuring it is kept tidy and fully operational.

Pontypool RFC is eternally grateful to everyone who gives up their time and helps create a positive match day environment for the Pooler Army.

Our upcoming fixtures against Aberavon (23rd Nov) and Bridgend (14th Dec) are available to sponsor and we’d welcome any local businesses or supporter collectives to get in touch. Contact Jamie.hallam@pontypoolrugby.co.uk for more information
