We are delighted to announce that Craig Evans joins us with immediate effect and will be responsible for coaching the backs.
Craig represented Carmarthen Quins, Cardiff, Cambridge, Llangennech and Aberavon during his playing career amassing over 2,200 points over 350 appearances. He also represented Wales at Youth and U21 level and also made appearances for Crawshays & Steel Bodgers. After he hung his boots up he coached Carmarthen Quins for 5 years with the latter 2 of those as Head Coach.
On joining Pooler Craig said: ‘I’m obviously aware of the history of the club and its stature within Welsh rugby. Seeing the club progress since Peter rescued the club from the brink of obscurity has been really impressive, with the club now making an impact at the top table of Welsh club rugby.’
On joining Tom’s team he said: ‘I’ve known Tom for about 25 years going back to secondary school but we’ve never actually worked together. He did a fantastic job at Llandovery and has clearly made a very positive impact at Pooler more recently. I’ve had a good break from rugby for a couple of years and have fully recharged the batteries, which I needed after 20 years playing & coaching, but now I’m just really excited to get started with Tom and the rest of the boys.‘
‘Along with coaching the backs I’ll hope to add strategy to our kicking game with my experience in this area. I’m looking forward to getting to know the players and will be aiming to take our attacking play to the next level and ensure we’re competing at the top end of Super Rygbi Cymru.’
We welcome Craig to Pontypool Park.
