We'd like to offer thanks to each supporter who contributed to a raffle organised by Darren Samuel - £344 was raised and donated to the club with Nathan Hayward winning a jersey signed by the current squad..

Yesterdays game also saw the family of Ann & Mike Gwatkin make a donation to the club in their honour and attended the match. Darren Jones subsequently awarded Man of the Match to Walker Price. We thank them for their kind gesture and the support from Ann & Mike over the years.

We also marked the recent passing of three former players with a period of applause prior to kick off.

Hooker Roy Taylor joined the club from Crumlin and made his debut in the 5-0 home win over Neath in the final game of the 1962-63 season. He had two stints with the club – from 1963 to 1966, and again in the 1968-69 season with his comeback game being the switching on of the floodlights here at Pontypool against Newport in November 1968. In total Roy played around 115 games for the club and scored 6 tries.

Haydn Wilmott joined the club from Abertillery in 1977-78 as a centre making his debut in the 45-0 win over Pontypool & District Rugby Union at Pontypool Park in September 1977and went on to make 30 appearances that season. He left for a while and scored Talywain’s only try against Pooler here at Pontypool Park in Pooler’s narrow 12-4 win in April 1980. He re-joined Pooler as a back row forward towards the end of the following season and made his final appearance for the club in the 7-3 defeat against his former club, Abertillery at Abertillery Park in December 1986. Haydn made 72 appearances and scored 30 tries. He captained Pontypool Athletic in the 1986-87 season.

Winger Paul Gallagher, who had previously played for Blaina and Swansea, made 18 appearances and scored 9 tries in Pontypool’s highly successful 1983-84 season when the club set a then world record number of points in a season with 1,607. Paul was on the winning side in 17 of these appearances and played in the 15-15 draw at Llanelli in the WRU Cup.

One final notice - Our fixture vs Carmarthen Quins on the 4th January will now kick off at the later time of 5.15pm with the game being covered by S4C.
