Weekend Wrap Up with a Farewell to Peter

Sunday 22nd December 2024

The boys brought home the derby victory this weekend and will look to make it a double next Saturday - With the back to back games straddling Christmas day we have to commend the players and staff who are giving up some of their family time to ensure our preparation is as professional as always. We'd also like to thank Pendragon Fireworks & Pyrotechnics who supported the club again yesterday as match sponsor whilst providing the fire for the boys.

There was an incident after full time yesterday where a 'supporter' shouted abuse at a match official however this was witnessed at close quarters by us and officials from Ebbw Vale and dealt with immediately. Abuse, both verbally on match days and via social media, to match officials seems to be becoming more commonplace and we'd ask everyone to think about the impact this has on our game. Every official carries out their duties without bias, unlike the majority of commenters who only view the game from a certain perspective. We will not tolerate such incidents and should this trend continue we will have to restrict access to the players/officials whilst on duty.

On another sad note we have to advise that Peter Lloyd is hanging up his boots. Pete made 51 appearances for Pooler since joining from Cardiff RFC. He joined as a prop but also latterly played at hooker where he’d more often than not make a huge impact at scrum time.

Pete said: Unfortunately I’ve had to make the hard decision to finish my playing journey due to injury and family commitments. I’ve gained some amazing memories and great friends since joining the club. I’m grateful to have been a part of the clubs recent journey achieving the highest possible level rugby.

I’d like to thank everyone at the club for their support and friendship and also the supporters for the welcome I had. This is a special club which will always have a special place in my heart. The biggest thanks has to go to my wife, kids & family, all of whom have supported me throughout my career. It’s now time to spend more time with them and start paying them back.

We wish Pete all the very best for the future.
