Evan Wood
We’re delighted to confirm that Evan Wood has signed for the season having made a number of impressive appearances at the end of 2024/25 on permit from Cardiff Met. He’s currently in the Wales U20’s training camp, aiming to make the squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship and featured in yesterday’s spectacle at Pontypool Park.
On signing Evan said ‘I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and properly beginning my journey with Pontypool. After playing a few games at the back end of last season I’m excited to be able to return to play even more games in a Pooler shirt. For me, Pontypool feels like the best place to be for my personal development having been with the U20’s and playing in both the Premiership and BUCS Super Rugby. I can’t wait to develop further in Super Rygbi Cymru, the top level in Wales.
Scott Matthews can’t wait for Evan to join the ranks and stated ‘Evan made a real impact towards the tail end of last season filling in for the injured Sam Scarfe and was a stand-out performer in our home win against Cardiff. Evan is a competitor and drives the on-field energy very well. He’s already fit right into our environment and will be a great asset for us’
Aneurin James
Aneurin joins from Brecon having previously represented Swansea. He joins brother, Owain, as a Pooler player with OJ featuring from Dragons RFC.
On stepping up to the SRC Aneurin said ‘I’m really looking forward to getting started at Pooler – It’s a proud club with a rich history and fantastic supporters. I’m looking forward to adding value to the squad and play my part in helping the club achieve its goal this season.
Ashley Sweet said ‘Aneurin is a seasoned hooker who receives high praise from Dale McIntosh for his abrasive and fearless style. He’s a heavy hitter and Pooler fans can expect to see some big tackles from him. He throws the ball well and I’m excited in what he’ll bring to our set piece and maul game.
Ewan Burrows
Ewan is an exciting young hooker who joins us from Newport Saracens. The 21 year old said ‘I’m excited to sign for Pooler and am looking forward to being part of the strong squad. I can’t wait to get stuck into the SRC to show off my aggression and speed.
Ash stated ‘I was very impressed by Ewan when he played for Monmouthshire County against Newport RFC earlier this year. He has had an outstanding season for Newport Saracens and we look forward to helping him kick on at a higher level. He is balanced, skilful and physical and will really drive the competition at hooker’
