For their final game of 2017, Pontypool welcome traditional rivals and near neighbours Newbridge to Pontypool Park on Saturday for what promises to be a mouth-watering local derby in the WRU National Championship, kick-off 2.30pm.
Pooler have a 14-poiont lead at the top of the league table with 58 points out of a possible 60, winning all 12 games played so far this season.
In second place are Narberth with 44 points but have played one game more than Pontypool.
Newbridge, having won their last four league matches, are currently in fifth position with seven wins and six defeats from their 13 games played and have 32 league points.
Last season Pooler did the double over Newbridge with a 50-17 success at Pontypool Park in September and won 40-10 at the Welfare Ground in December.
The first-ever meeting between the two clubs was back in September 1911 at Pontypool when the home side won by two tries to nil (6-0).
Pooler have won the last seven meetings between the two clubs - Newbridge’s last success was a19-17 victory at Pontypool Park in January 2014 in the WRU Cup.
