The games keep coming for Pontypool with Narberth RFC visiting Pontypool Park tomorrow and flanker Mike Herbert is pleased there hasn’t been a break to halt momentum.
The fixture list originally had a two-week break for the first two weekends in February but earlier postponements in the season have seen games rescheduled to give Pooler a run of games.
Herbert believes that can only be a positive as Pontypool look to continue their impressive form.
Pooler turned on the style last Friday night against Gwent rivals Cross Keys RFC and will be hoping for more of the same against the Otters.
“It’s good to have games when the Six Nations is on,” said Herbert.
“Normally we have quite a big break so it’s just good to keep the ball rolling.
“It’s good to get a good block of games in and it helps to keep the standards high, it keeps the boys together and on a roll.
“We played some really nice rugby [against Cross Keys].
“In the second half some parts of the game were questionable but we stuck together and got the bonus-point win.
“It’s just sticking to the game plan, not going off script or getting into any silly niggles.
“Narberth have a good back three and a good kicking game.
“They fancy their chances whenever we play them.
“The bonus for us is that it is at home, we’ve got that advantage so hopefully we can get five points and keep the ball rolling.
“The crowd helps us massively so it will be good to get a win at home and take that forward for the away games.”
Pooler have made five changes with Sam Cochrane and Tom Piper both coming into the front row.
Garin Price replaces Adam Stratton, who injured his knee against Keys, while Callum Davies comes into the team with Scott Matthews moving to number eight.
The only change among the backs sees Deon Smith return to the wing. Connor Lewis, who turned 19 on Thursday, is among the replacements.
Pooler are on their travels for the next four games with trips to Neath RFC, Trebanos RFC and TATA Steel RFC before the cup semi-final with the Welsh All Blacks, which will be played at a neutral venue.
