Peter Lloyd is willing to play anywhere the coaches want him too, he just wants to play.
The ex-Cardiff man joined the club as a prop and that is where he has played for Pooler until this season.
With Darren Hughes in the treatment room and Sam Scarfe away on international duty, someone needed to step into the hooker role and Lloyd was the man to do it.
He has excelled in that role and even added tries to his game – five in seven starts.
Hughes has now made a full recovery and has featured in the last two fixtures while Scarfe has also returned to the fold, setting up Deon Smith for the late try against Neath in the WRU Championship Cup semi final at the CiNER Glass Community Stadium.
That leaves the management with the difficult decision of who to field as hooker for the season run-in.
“I’m enjoying playing hooker, it’s my old position,” said Lloyd
“I just want to be playing, tighthead or hooker. If they want me to play then I’ll play in either position.
“At the end of the day it’s about chipping in, it’s a team effort.
‘[Sam] Scarfey is back and Daren [Hughes] is back and you also have Aneurin [Jenkins] they are my competition.
“You’ve got Kyan [Best] coming in as tighthead and Kelvyn [Williams] too. I’m competing against a couple of boys but I’m happy to play anywhere.
“I’m looking to play every game week in week out.
“There is a lot of competition in the team. All the boys are pushing for it and that is what you need.
“Sometimes teams have one or two main players but here we have three boys who can compete in each position and that is healthy competition for the boys.
“And that is what helps improve performance. If you are not performing one week then you’re out.”
The front row believes the club is in a really strong position in the season and is targeting a strong end to the campaign, starting with Glamorgan Wanderers.
“It’s my original club,” revealed Lloyd.
“You’ve got to take every game as it comes.
“We’re probably at the best we’ve been all season and that comes from the boys pushing, from the management group and the supporters following us too. It’s the whole environment.
“It’s not just about just trying to get promotion, it’s about going into next season on a high.”
