Sam Scarfe believes the forwards could play a pivotal role in who leaves the Wern with a victory on Saturday afternoon.
The hooker has started all of the league games so far and will be hoping to keep his place when Pooler travel to Merthyr in the Indigo Premiership.
The two sides met in pre-season when Merthyr produced a professional performance to come away from Pontypool Park with a win.
They showed off their physical prowess in the pack and Scarfe believes that area is likely to have a big impact on Saturday’s fixture.
“We’ve got to learn from that game but also move on from it and play how we want to play," said hooker Scarfe.
“If we play our game we have more than a good chance of winning.
“We’ve got a lot of tough games coming up so to get a win on Saturday would keep those wheels turning and keep us on the attack.
“The set piece could be key.
“They have a lot of tall boys in their lineout and they have a heavy pack.
“We’ve got to match them in the forwards, I think it might come down to that forward domination.
“We played against Aberavon, who have a big pack, and we fared well against them. There is not much fear from us.”
Pooler travel to the Ironmen in third place after a strong start to the season.
After impressing against Newport in the opening game but falling to a defeat, the squad has rallied to secure three consecutive wins in the league.
At the start of the season there was a bit of nerves but we learned quickly that it doesn’t matter as long as we play how we want to play,” explained Wales U20 international Scarfe.
“We don’t fear anybody. We don’t disrespect them but at the same time we don’t give them too much respect, we just play how we want to play.
“It’s been a great start. Not with the first game but how we bounced on to the next games was great and we are looking forwards and keeping a run of form going.
“We are a tight-knit group and we do play for each other as a team.
“When it comes down to those final minutes that will really show and I don’t think many teams can say the same.”
