PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 30th August 2019 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of Adam Stratton from Pontypool United RFC, with the start of the 2019-2020 WRU Specsavers Championship now moving into view.

The 25-year-old flanker joins the club after spending the last seven seasons with Pooler's near-neighbours at the Memorial Ground. The forward arrives at the club with a fine reputation as one of the best players previously operating under the top two divisions in the country. He played his part as the club earned promotion to Division 1 East in 2016 and is poised to make an impact on the Championship in Pooler colours.

On joining Pooler, Stratton said: "I have decided to join the club as I still have a huge desire to try and better myself as a player. I was asked to train with Pontypool at the end of last season and then ended up signing with the club. I have enjoyed pre-season and look forward to hopefully pulling on the famous red, white and black shirt in a competitive fixture and making an impact as best I can.

"I enjoyed having a run-out against Dings Crusaders at the start of the month. It was a useful exercise and we took a lot from it as a group. This weekend, against Canterbury RFC, we will have to step up a level and produce a performance that will leave us in good shape ahead of the opening game of the season at home to Beddau RFC. Everyone is aware that the club is gunning for promotion again this season and I hope I can play my part.”

Stratton's arrival further demonstrates Pooler's desire to sign and work with some of the area's best local talent. Head coach, Leighton Jones, is pleased to have added the back-row man to his squad.

"Adam is a quality player who has been a key part of United's resurgence. He is a fast, aggressive player and will add further quality to our back-row options,” said Jones.

“We have some excellent clubs on our doorstep in Pontypool and within their squads are some real gems. Giving local players an opportunity is something I have always believed strongly in and I look forward to seeing how Adam will develop with us."
