It is with sadness that Pontypool RFC has learned of the death of one of its former players. Don Prosser, who was a centre or wing, played for the club in the 1950s. His first game was the home match against Talywain on Saturday 1 September 1951 in a 19-3 success when he scored a try and his final appearance was in the 14-11 victory over Penarth, also at home, on Saturday 28 September 1957. Overall, he made 161 appearances and scored 45 tries, 24 conversions and 21 penalties for a total of 246 points. Don also represented the Pontypool/Cross Keys combined side that played New Zealand at Pontypool Park on Saturday 16 January 1954, a game which the tourists won 19-6.
Everyone at Pontypool RFC would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to Don’s family at this very difficult time.
Don’s funeral is on Tuesday 14th September at Mardy Church, Abergavenny at 2.00pm and then Gwent Crematorium at 3:30pm. Due to COVID rules only limited numbers for church (50) and Crematorium (70), so the funeral director will need to know numbers. If you intend going, please contact John Williams at Ted Williams & Sons, Abergavenny on 01873 854358.
