Pontypool RFC is delighted to announce the signing of winger Deon Smith, who will add real firepower to an already potent attacking force.
Smith is a highly rated and pacey winger who spent last season at Newport RFC, narrowly losing out to Cardiff RFC for the Indigo Premiership title. He played 10 times for the Black and Ambers.
The 22-year-old also spent time at Bedwas RFC during their stint in the Premiership where he featured seven times, scoring two tries.
He began his career at Pontypool United RFC and has featured internationally for Wales U18s and U20s, scoring a late winner against England in the U20 Six Nations in 2019.
Another local addition Smith, who can also operate at centre, said: “Being a local boy I’ve watched a lot of rugby at the park growing up.
“Now I’m looking forward to the chance to get on there myself.”
Newly appointed backs coach Shaun Connor is looking forward to working with the former Dragons Academy star.
“He is an excellent addition to the squad,” he stated.
“I am looking forward to seeing him challenge for a starting spot in a position where we have depth."
