Debut delight for winger Harry Jarvis

Harry Jarvis was delighted to finally make his Pontypool debut in the victory over Bridgend Ravens at Pontypool Park.

Winger Jarvis, who plays for Cwmbran, was originally named in the team to face Merthyr in January but that game was postponed due to the weather.

Since then he has had to wait for his chance but he got the opportunity against the Ravens with a place on the bench.

An early injury to Marcus Jones saw him enter the action in the first half.

“I really enjoyed it,” exclaimed Jarvis.

“I play for Cwmbran as well so I’ve been in and out but it’s nice to finally get a run out at the Park.

“I wasn’t expecting as many minutes as I had but I thoroughly enjoyed it, hopefully Marcus is alright.

"I’ve gotta’ take any chance I can get, whether that is five minutes or 60 like today, I just want to take any chance I can get.

“I haven’t played many games recently so hopefully I can get a bit of sharpness back and a run a few in towards the end of the season.”

Jarvis revealed the coaches have been a big help with their advice but revealed what the most important message has been.

“The biggest message from all the coaches in general has been just to enjoy it,” he said.

“They are looking to play with a bit more freedom now the weather is getting better and that is perfect for me playing on the wing as I can get more of the ball.

“I can bounce back and forth [between clubs], it’s a nice relationship as we’re only down the road.

“As long as I‘m playing rugby I’m happy.”

Head coach Leighton Jones thought Jarvis gave a good account of himself on his Pooler debut and hopes he continues his line of progression.

“Harry’s club is Cwmbran. He’s come up through Cwmbran and we’ve been keeping an eye on him,” he said.

“He’s been training with us and gone back to Cwmbran.

“He likes it there and they are doing good things with him.

“We gave him an opportunity today and I think he had a superb debut.

“He looked fast and elusive and showed good footwork.

“Hopefully he carries on and he continues that progression.”
