Squad update

We're saddened to confirm that Sam Cochrane has hung up his boots.

Sam has suffered with a number of injuries in recent years and feels the time is right to step away after making 79 appearance in the jersey.

Sam said: 'I want to thank everyone at Pontypool RFC and it's been an honour to represent such a prestigious club. Being able to play for my local club has meant a lot to me and stepping away from rugby wasn't an easy decision to make but I feel it's the right one for me and my family. I've genuinely loved my time at the club and will always cherish the many memories & friendships with players, staff and supporters alike. I wish the club the very best of luck for the future and I'll continue cheering on from the sidelines.

Sam always gives 110% on the pitch but is also so important off the pitch with his work rate & attitude an example for others to follow. He's been sorely missed this season with injury restricting him to just 5 appearances.

We are however pleased to announce that Ellis Lewis has joined us for the remainder of the season. The former Ospreys academy player has U18 honours and appeared at last years World Rugby Junior World Championships for the U20's.

Ellis has previously featured for Seven Sisters and Tonmawr at junior and youth level and has played senior rugby for Seven Sisters, Neath & Swansea.

The scrum half made his debut off the bench in our last fixture at home to Cardiff where supporters got to see his all action style of play. We look forward to seeing Ellis continue to make an impact.
