For their final game of 2016, Pontypool make the short journey to the Welfare Ground on Saturday to take on traditional rivals Newbridge in the WRU National Championship, in what promises to be a mouth-watering local derby.
Pontypool will be looking to extend their impressive league run to 14 consecutive victories since the start of the season. Pooler sit on top of the league table with 59 league points from their 13 games while Newbridge are in 11th position with 3 wins from 12 matches played and 16 league points.
Despite Newbridge’s league position, they will be all out to down Pooler’s colours so Pontypool will have to be on top form to overcome a determined and proud Newbridge side. Earlier in the season, Pontypool defeated their near neighbours 50-17 at Pontypool Park in mid-September.
Congratulations to flanker Robert Nash who is due to make his 100th league and cup appearance for the club on Saturday. He has made 94 league appearances and 5 in the WRU Cup. Well done Nashy!
