For the club’s final match of 2018, Pontypool will make the short trip to the Welfare Ground on Saturday to take on traditional rivals and near neighbours Newbridge in what promises to be an absorbing, keenly contested local derby.
Of the 21 league games already played in 2018, Pontypool have won all 21 scoring 830 points and 128 tries while conceding 253 points and 33 tries.
Back in September, Pooler beat Newbridge 46-18 at Pontypool Park in a match of 10 tries, so will be looking for the season’s double.
Pontypool currently lead the Championship table by 14 points, having won all 12 matches played, with a game in hand over second-placed Ystrad Rhondda. Newbridge are in 9th place with 3 wins and last week’s 3-3 draw at Bedlinog from their 13 matches played and have 18 league points.
Pooler's loose head prop Jamie Jeune will make a welcome return after nine months out injured to make his 244th league and cup appearance for the club.
