Pontypool RFC is pleased to unveil its alternate shirt for the 2013/2014 season, provided by Gilbert.
The shirt pays homage to the original secondary colours used by Pontypool RFC when an opponent’s kit clashed with that of the now infamous red, white and black hoops. This traditional element of Pontypool RFC’s history has been integrated into a royal blue, dark navy and white modern 'swoosh' design.
The shirt was designed by Pontypool RFC’s long serving Kit Manager - Terry Simons, who is more affectionately known as ‘Tiger’. Since attending his first Pontypool RFC fixture in 1945, Tiger has dedicated over six decades of voluntary service for the club. Whether it be making refreshments, running the line or manning the gates at all Pontypool RFC home fixtures as he does today – Tiger has just about done it all.
“I live Pontypool RFC, I have grown up with it and it has been a part of my life since the age of ten,” said Tiger. “As soon as I was asked to design the new shirt, the first thing that sprung to my mind was the blue we used to have as our secondary colours. They are our traditional colours, along with the hoops. It was an honour to have been asked to design the new shirt and I was very happy to do it.”
Shaun Rees - Pontypool RFC Team Manager, who together with Head Coach - Mike Hook, approached Tiger to design the new alternate shirt said, “It would be impossible for the club to run without people like Tiger, who volunteer 20-30 hours a week come rain or shine. Tiger has been a fantastic servant of Pontypool RFC and this shirt is a tribute to his contributions. It is our way of saying thank you for everything he has done and continues to do on a daily basis for this rugby club.”
The 2013/2014 Pontypool RFC alternate shirt will be available to purchase towards the start of next season from all Rugby Heaven high-street stores, Rugby Heaven online as well as the soon to be developed Pontypool RFC club shop located in Pontypool Park.
