The first of this season’s school cup finals took part at Pontypool Park last week with several of the Pontypool first team in attendance.
The Year 7s took centre stage with the finalists being West Monmouth School and Croesyceiliog School, who had come through their relative groups.
In a keenly fought game West Monmouth managed to secure a 22-5 victory and Pooler second row Ashley Sweet handed the trophy over the captain Danny Jones.
The player of the match award, sponsored by MD Carpentry and Renovations, was presented to Sam King of winners West Monmouth.
“I would like to thank Mike Herbert for his sponsorship, Ashley Sweet for presenting the trophy, referee Steve Curtis/WRU, Dan Knight (West Monmouth School, Marcus Sainsbury (Croesyceiliog School) and finally all players and their families for making it a day to remember,” said Tony Clarke, community outreach co-ordinator for Pontypool.
The Year 8 final took place on Thursday while the Year 9 final will take place this Thursday at Pontypool Park with a 2.30pm kick-off.
