NOTE: Pontypool RFC's full squad line-up will be announced on Saturday before the match.
Pontypool will be in WRU National Cup action on Saturday evening when they make the journey to the Welsh capital to take on Premiership side Cardiff at Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 6.30pm). The late kick-off is due to Cardiff Blues hosting Treviso in the Guinness Pro-12 in the afternoon.
Three weeks ago, Pooler created the “shock” of the round by deservedly beating Llanelli 19-11 at Parc y Scarlets and will be looking to take another Premiership scalp on the road, on Saturday.
Cardiff and Pooler have met on 10 occasions in the WRU Cup with Cardiff winning seven, Pooler two and one drawn (10-10 at Pontypool Park on 26 February 1977 with Cardiff going through on try count 2-1). One of Pontypool’s victories was a 13-9 success at home on 26 February 1983, on the way to lifting the cup for the first, and so far, only time.
Pontypool are sixteen points clear at the top of the WRU National Championship with five games remaining, while Cardiff are in Tier 2 after finishing in the bottom half of the table at the mid-season split.
Pooler’s last match was at Tennant Park on 4 February when they defeated Skewen 40-17 to make in 17 consecutive league wins and 18 in all competitions. Cardiff, meanwhile, have suffered two home defeats in Tier 2, against Neath (9-20) and Swansea (33-34).
