Last Saturday Pontypool played hosts to the students of Cardiff Metropolitan University in a second round tie in the Specsavers WRU National Cup. This Saturday Pooler face the same opposition but in a different competition and different venue. League rugby resumes with Pontypool making the trip to Cyncoed.
This will be Pontypool’s 750th league game with full back Clayton Gullis making his 150th league and cup appearance for the club, and he has scored 49 tries.
Pooler mustn’t take the students lightly, despite Pontypool’s big win last weekend in the cup as Cardiff Met are renowned for their enterprising rugby and Pooler can’t forget the get-out-of-jail card they played at Cyncoed towards the end of last season with a Matthew Lewis drop goal in the 78th minute to take the spoils 41-40.
Pontypool are three points clear of Bargoed at the top of the Championship table with a maximum 35 league points from 7 bonus-point wins, while Cardiff Met are in third place with 5 wins and a draw from their 7 matches played and they have 24 league points.
The students will be up for revenge this weekend so another big test for Pontypool awaits.
