PONTYPOOL, South Wales, 1st September 2019 - Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce the signing of Ieuan Jones from Cross Keys RFC, with the start of the 2019-2020 WRU Specsavers Championship now under a week away.

The 26-year-old number 8 joins the club after spending the last three years with the Pandy Park outfit. The move marks a return to where it all began in senior rugby for Jones. The forward spent the 2009-2010 season at Pontypool Park as a teenager and will return ready to try and help the club achieve promotion to the Indigo Premiership.

On joining Pooler, Jones said: "I'm looking forward to the fresh start that this move presents. Starting my senior career at Pontypool Park means the club has always meant a lot to me. The club and set-up has changed a lot since I was last here and I was impressed with the plans the Jeffreys family and Leighton Jones have for the club.

"The club has won the last three Championship titles, but this season will be a tough proposition. With four relegated Premiership sides now in the division, the competitive nature of the league will only go up. However, I personally believe that can only be a good thing. As a player and as a team you develop and grow when tested and I'm sure it will bring the best out of me this season.

"I like to think I bring a physical edge to any game I play and I’ll always do everything I can for the betterment of the team. I'm looking forward to getting started and running out at Pontypool Park once again."

Jones' arrival further demonstrates Pooler's desire to leave nothing to chance as the club once again target promotion back to the Premiership. Head coach, Leighton Jones, is looking forward to working with the former Dragons and Ospreys man.

"Ieuan is a very positive signing for us. He has played Regional and Premiership rugby throughout his career and to be able to tempt him to Pontypool Park shows that we are an attractive proposition to quality players.

"He is a formidable force in the back-row and he is capable of playing an expansive game, which will fit in well with the direction we are heading next season.

“We now have a lot of strength in depth throughout the squad and we are well prepared for what will be another highly demanding season.”
